Turkey Tail, kawaratake, yun zhi, Trametes versicolor, is the species highlighted by uber-mycologist Paul Stamets (see the film, Fantastic Fungi, or his TED Talks for more information) as perhaps one of the most important to humankind. And not just to humans, but in its possible use by mankind for ecological restoration. You get the picture; this unassuming polypore mushroom packs a real punch.
As you may know, we aren’t here to tell you what this – or any other – fungi can or might be able to do for your health and wellbeing. We would urge you to research fully online, as there is a huge amount of information available about this mushroom.
What we can tell you is that we grow our Turkey Tail – Trametes versicolor – from a cloned specimen found within 200 metres of our location near Hay-on-Wye in Wales. We’ve worked with several other strains and continue to research the genetics of the strains we use, but our local strain is a beauty. We grow on our own specially-developed natural hardwood substrate mix with no chemicals or additives, in combination with carefully controlled humidity, light and temperature.
We simply grow it, dehydrate and powder it and package it to send to you. No funny business. 100% grown and packaged in Wales, United Kingdom
