What’s it good for?
Lions Mane, or the compounds extracted from it, has been through many human clinical trials. These studies have shown potential positive impacts in several areas, but we make no claims on medical efficacy of the compounds or the product. The tincture is sold as a supplement and in no way should it be construed as a medical or pseudo-medical product. The studies that might be of interest are linked below:
Cognitive impairment and cognitive function (Xu et al, 1985)
Anxiety reduction (Inanga et al, 2014)
Reducing menopausal and peri-menopausal symptoms, including anxiety, depression, palpitations, frustration, irritability and insomnia. (Nagano et al, 2010)
Sleep quality (Okamura et al, 2015)
Retention of facts and short term memory improvement Mori et al, 2009 and Saitsu et al, 2019)
This is not a medical product. You should always consult your doctor/physician if you are expecting a child or breastfeeding a baby. If you are undergoing medical treatment for cancer, you might want to discuss your use of any supplements to ensure that no contraindications are likely.
What is it?
Lion’s Mane, Monkey Brain, Hedgehog mushroom, Old Man’s Beard, Yamabushitake (mountain priest mushroom) or just plain old Hericium erinaceus. What an incredible-looking fungus this is! The outlandish fruiting body is instantly recognizable.
As well as being recognisable, the fruiting body has a complex flavour and texture that has been compared with lobster or shrimp after cooking, so it lends itself to being used in some exquisite dishes by clever chefs. Indeed, Lions Mane was once the preserve of Royalty and the aristocracy, so prized was it’s appearance and unique taste.
How is my tincture Made?
The tincture process for our Lion’s Mane is as follows:
dehydrate the fresh fruiting bodies and mycelium (separated by hand from the growing substrate) at low temperature for 24 hours.
these are then soaked in food-grade grain alcohol and treated with low-temperature ultrasound to maximise beneficial compound extraction.
the alcohol solution is then left to steep for up to six weeks (being agitated every day along the way).
the solids are added to warm water for further extraction of compounds that are not alcohol soluble.
the alcohol and water are then combined in the right amounts to provide a 1:4 (dried mushroom grams to millilitres of liquid) ratio.
The final part of the process uses ultrasonic mixing to homogenise the tincture, which ensures every drop has the same potency as the last.
The product is not highly filtered, as this might remove some of the beneficial organic matter, so we advise you always shake it before you take it
It’s then bottled, labelled and sent on it’s journey to your good self.
Taking the tincture
The bottle has a dropper with marks indicated on it. A full dropper per day is a recommended adult dose.
I tend to take mine in the morning to be sure it is part of my routine. The tincture is concentrated mushrooms, and not everyone likes the taste. Personally, I tend to add mine to my coffee or juice, again, as a part of my morning routine. You will notice some alcohol taste, which is the 20% organic grain ethanol I use to extract and preserve the shelf-life of my tinctures.
Your 50ml bottle should last between a month and six weeks.
Thank you for buying my products. It means the world to me.
I simply collect or grow it, turn it into a tincture, package it and deliver it to you. No funny business. 100% grown, extracted and packaged in Bannau Brecheiniog, Wales, United Kingdom.
